The Meridian Building
Site 7 is one of New Zealand's 'greenest' commercial buildings, built using environmentally sustainable design principles.
Special flexible panels were created to allow for a 5 degree twist to the roof/ ceiling line. The Triton Duo panel gave a NRC 0.75 for reverberation control in the offices and featured a high mass metal backer to attenuate rain noise under the roof. An important attribute of the panels were their low environmental impact, custom panels were supplied for perimeter cuts to reduce wastage on site, panels also featured a high recycled content and can be renewed and recycled locally by Asona. Greenbuilding and SustainabilityRenew & Recycle old or soiled acoustical ceiling panels into new-look ceilings
Existing ceiling panels are resurfaced on site or removed to Asona’s factory for resurfacing with new Sonatex™ acoustic facings or vacuum laminated with washable vinyl film for hygiene areas. Asona Renew™ helps reduce construction waste going to land fill, reuses an existing resource to minimise the buildings carbon foot print, saves on the need for new panel replacement and increases light reflection of the ceiling for better use of natural and artificial lighting. Whats more recent testing at the Auckland acoustic laboratories show that acoustical performance ratings of the original panel are retained which helps manage room acoustics. In most cases the installed cost is lower that replacement with new imported panels. Greenbuilding The environmental load can be limited by efficient design and the careful selection of materials that are low in embodied energy, durable and can be repaired and recycled locally. Asona is committed to supporting Greenbuilding and has undertaken a GreenBuild Partial Environmental Product Declaration for the Asona Triton range. This involves an environmental audit of the Triton range product lifecycle and is listed on the Greenbuild building products database www.greenbuild.co.nz Picture perfect acoustical finishesMarshall Day Acoustical Consultants wanted artwork as well as effective noise control – the solution, Triton Canvas.
Chris Day called in Asona and a solution was developed with the assistance of Xsite architects. A modified Triton panel was used to create a picture panel which we’re calling Triton Canvas.
“We’re thrilled with the result, it’s solved the reverberation problem and it’s great to tell our clients that the artwork are also acoustic panels which is a nice fit to our business” says Chris Day, managing director Marshall Day acoustical consultants. Sophisticated, elegant fabric wall
Warren and Mahoney architects selected Asona Paddington fabric wall panels for the reception feature wall, quiet rooms and client rooms at the recently completed fitout for Chapman Tripp.
Asona features on Marae DIYThe popular Maori TV program Marae DIY approached Asona in early 2008 to help solve the acoustics at the Te Patunga Marae project. The whare kai (community food hall) was excessively reverberant/ lively due to it’s hard barrel vault ceiling and hard wall and floor surfaces.
Thanks to Fabriche for the fabric and to Tasman for helping out with a discount on the glass fibre board.
Digital Post
Custom 2400 x 1200 x 100 mm Triton absorber panels were use on the ceiling to maximize broad band absorption and decorative Snaptex stretch fabric finishes over 180mm thick glass fibre absorber board, steel faced bass absorbers and angled plywood reflectors.
Auckland Boys Grammar Sports Pavilion
For the multipurpose pavilion area Danoline Design panel Q2F with 12 x 12 mm square perforations was used. Danoline™ perforated plasterboard panelsDanoline™, Europe’s leading brand of perforated gypsum ceiling and wall linings are now available in New Zealand via Asona Ltd and has been used very successfully in a number of projects.
Danoline™ Design Panel flush stopped linings can replace standard tapered edge 13mm plasterboard when sound absorption performance is required to reduce reverberation for quiet comfort and a clean monolithic aesthetic, as used at New Lynn library. Danoline™ perforations are press punched for clean holes and are superior to drill perforated alternatives which suffer from ragged edges. Perforations are available in square (Quadril 12 x 12 mm, Micro 3 x 3mm), round (Globe 6mm) or new Tangent oblong perforations and all panels are backed with acoustical tissue back laminate for sound absorption. Design Panel and Tecto Panel are delivered plain for painting on site; others are pre-painted or laminated with foil finishes for immediate use. top...ATKAR™ perforated timber and fibre cement panelsWhere custom is standard Asona Ltd is the exclusive distributor for ATKAR™ brand perforated decorative acoustical panels, manufactured in Melbourne Australia ATKAR™ is the premier name in high quality decorative slot or round perforated acoustical panels.
Ideal for corporate office, lobbies, civic buildings, universities, libraries ATKAR™ adds excitement to feature wall and ceilings whilst controlling acoustics for comfort. Available in slot or round hole perforations in MDF, Ply, Fibre cement.
Classroom 60/40 acoustic solutionAsona has developed and tested this fully integrated sound absorbing, sound reflecting, sound attenuating acoustical ceiling system designed specifically for classrooms, music rooms and other educational facilities that require balanced room acoustics for speech comprehension and music tone quality. Called Classroom 60/40 the system is made in New Zealand and consists of an economical fast installing two way exposed grid with a range of lay in acoustical panels.
Asona Diffusion sound reflecting panels are installed over 40% of the ceiling in the centre of the room to provide early reflections that help with speech comprehension and music tone quality. For applications under metal roofing where rain noise or traffic noise attenuation is required Asona Triton Duo 35 or Trio 45 high STC composite absorber/ attenuator panels replace the standard Triton 25 absorber. All panels are finished with Sonatex composite facer for a uniform finish, impact resistance and durability. Classroom 60/40 offers superior acoustical performance and durability than imported competitor product and is available locally to short lead times. Classroom 60/40 installs for less than the cost of standard staple up mineral fibre ceilings in use today. Specify and buy NZ made. High tech composite acoustic facerAsona Ltd has developed and introduced to the NZ market a revolutionary proprietary high strength acoustic composite material called Sonatex™.
Sonatex™ provides superior sound absorption, impact durability, penetration resistance, crack and chip resistance, sag and warp resistance, resiliency compared to imported tissue faced mineral fibre, rock wool and glass wool competitor product. Our local production means we can manufacture product in 1-2 weeks from order.
Sonatex 250 is the facer panel for the Triton 25, 50, 75, Duo 35, Duo 60, Trio 45, Trio 70 and the Diffusion reflector ceiling panels. Sonatex is also used as an acoustic impact interlayer under fabric systems, Fabwall and Sound-Soft stretch fabric covered acoustical wall panelling. top... Digital printed acoustic ceilingAsona Triton Image™ is a unique bespoke decorative sound absorbing ceiling and wall lining system develop by Asona Ltd to take advantage of digital and sublimation printing techniques on fire resistant Sonatex™ composite facer panel.
Manufactured in NZ from printed fire resistant Sonatex™ facer laminated to a 25mm or 50mm thick bio-soluble resin bonded glass fibre sound absorber backer panel for NRC up to 0.95. Asona Triton Image™ is ideal for bars, restaurants, cafés, retail, hotel, lobbies where a special decorative acoustical finish is desired.
Testing verify’s superior acoustical performanceAsona is an active developer of acoustical finishes and believes in full scale testing to gather accurate sound absorption and attenuation data.
